I am of the Facebook Generation. Crazy as it seems, social media and social media outlets are generation-ally related and in the network marketing and online marketing business, staying on the cutting edge, is the difference between falling off the radar and engaging new and interesting conversations about your hobby, product or service.
Instagram is my albatross. I Love Facebook, it’s my baby, I like twitter and fortunately it’s evolved into a more “facebook like” medium, with it’s eye candy and viral abilities. Pinterest -> I get it. and SnapChat… well, who doesn’t love that face morphing or floral crown tool? BUT INSTAGRAM? OMG… Instagram… How to get more likes on instagram is my albatross.
Today I’ve set out to solve the issue… for me.. and you! 🙂 Enjoy. (I’ll try not to whine too much)
Get your Blog to Automatically Post to Instagram
To be sure, there are a gazillion wordpress plugin’s that will help you get your words to the masses… WHAT? You aren’t using WordPress. Well… while I understand the limitations of the free wordpress platform, I would strongly suggest that you invest a small fee (under $100.00 for the entire year) in getting yourself the hosting and domain that is required to do whatever you want! 🙂 … freedom… (www.easybuildawebsite.com is a great place to start) Now, where was I… Ah Yes, automatically posting to Instagram.
First and foremost… Instagram is STRICTLY MOBILE POSTING. That means it’s even if / when we find the wordpress plugin to automatically post to instagram, not only do you have to a instagram specific account, but there are some other bells and whistles that the posting does not allow.
Please read this description from a VERY informative analysis found here:
Instagram has a SPAM filter. That filter does not care about autoposting, but it does notice some things that are hard/unusual to do from the phone, but very easy using the SNAP.
Instagram always watches new accounts. The older your account, the less likely it will be considered as “spamming account.”
Instagram does not support links at all. You can put URL to your description, but it won’t be clickable. Instagram considers all posts with URLs as suspicious, but most of all Instagram hates shortened URLs. Almost 100% of posts with shortened URLs will be considered as spam and deleted.
Do not include most popular tags. Instagram considers all posts with most popular tags as suspicious.
Do not post more than humanly possible. If you post five posts per minute 24/7, your account will be noticed.
If you already got hit by SPAM filter, try to make several posts from your phone without any links or hashtags. Instagram will unmark your account as “Spammer” after some time.
You can’t use plugin with Facebook or Google+ Instagram accounts. You need to have a native Instagram account.
The short story is this…. If you want followers, you have to post content. Doesn’t matter if it’s Facebook, pinterest, instagram or twitter. No one will know about you, if you aren’t connecting with social media. The challenge for you is how to automate the process. Each type of social media has it’s own TYPE of follower. BUT… the real challenge for you as a blogger is to figure out how to do it all automatically.
Instagram looks for instagram spam… specifically posts that are easy with a computer, but harder with a mobile device.
The Goal? Post exceptional quality information once on your wordpress blog… and let it flow out to your social media accounts… automatically and avoid the eye in the sky trash bin as it senses you’re automation as spam.
As you can see… The challenges with posting to Instagram directly from wordpress (while not insurmountable) are exactly the same reasons that Instagram is so popular… it’s for mobile devices.
I’m making the assumption that you have already got an instagram account. If you don’t signup for instagram at www.instagram.com.
Step One: Install The WordPress Plugin! -> I have decided to go the FREE route. I’ve tested this plugin and it works great and it is also currently supported and actively being updated with each WordPress Version. It’s called: POST TO INSTAGRAM. (who would have guessed)
I’m actually posting this post to my instagram account as we speak: 1creativecash (if you’re interested in seeing how it updates)
There’s a bit of setup… and I was very mindful of the suggestions I read in the above listed blog post because I don’t want my posts to fail.
Step Two: GRAPHICS! instagram is all about the Instant Gratification of Glorious and
beautiful images. Now, I’m going to tell you the worst kept, best secret to beautiful images: www.pixabay.com and another FREE tool, pixlr express. You can take the images you download (for free) and bring them up into Pixlr Express and then add your favorite phrase or applicable words… something that is graphically pleasing and will garner “hearts” on instagram.
There are a number of other applications that will allow you easier creativity, such as www.canva.com or photofy. (note: photofy is a phone app, and while I understand that there a millions of people who are able to use their phones as mini computers… I am old old old school. I need a full qwerty keyboard and room for my coffee cup… and a nice view of a lake doesn’t hurt) Seriously. I can’t be creative if I’m concentrating on keeping my chubby fingers on that little itty bitty keyboard…)
Step Three: FOLLOW OTHER PEOPLE
if you want people to see your posts… and you want other people to follow you.. the best way to do it is to initiate the connection. Follow people. Look for like minded people, and follow them. Estimates say about 30% of people followed reciprocate. Now, I know that the twitter & instagram make suggestions about who to follow like JayZ and Arianna Grande… just be mindful that they may not follow you back! 🙂 Look for people and posts that connect with who you are and what you do. Those are the connections you want to make.
The hardest part about getting more followers on instagram is keeping your content consistent and current. The easiest way to do that is to follow the steps outlined in this post. Create your account -> link your blog to your account -> and post regularly!
